A donation made to

greatly appreciated.
mommyhen42 from the DIY Aquaponics forum has built a 6x8 greenhouse that she
set up to run aquaponically from a 60 gal fish tank that is
currently the home to some juvie Koi that will eventually go into
one of her decorative ponds she has built in the foyer area of her
home.
The greenhouse contains
several aquaponic systems including a system that holds 100 plants.
It is made from PVC guttering downspout drain tubes and a 5 bucket Dutch
bucket system all running from the 60 gal tank.
There are also three 10 gal Rubbermaid totes with kitty litter pans on
them for flood and drain that she uses to start seeds. There is
also self cloning crayfish Procambrus sp. in each tub. Got to
use every available space for something productive. To see her whole article which also
contains info on Lava Rock media, click the link below.
This is one of the few tilapia species that can be owned in
California legally. They are a smaller species, but are prolific fry
producers and will start reproducing at only 3 months old. Wild varieties
are very dark in color. They are salt tolerant and can live in hyper saline
water.
These are one of the main fish that hybrids are made from. Most of the
orange varieties of hybrids come from this species as it readily produces
orange morphs.
This is a poor photo, but shows a wild mossie and an orange morph that is
nearly wild:
The male is in full breeding colors, with a white throat and dark
coloration.
These are not tolerant to cold and should be kept at around 85F. Below 60F
they die quickly.

Here is a hatch from a single young female only 6" long:
This is a genetically improved orange morph:
